Magnetospheric Physics

The magnetosphere is the region of space surrounding Earth that is dominated by Earth's magnetic field. Large chunks of energetic material from the Sun can drive storms in the magnetosphere that can disturb satellites and communication and cause power outages. My research focuses on the ion dynamics in the magnetosphere, especially in the magnetotail and plasma sheet. I am a member of the Science Team for the NASA TWINS mission.

Projects in magnetospheric physics include analysis of data from satellite- and ground-based instruments as well as computer simulations.
