Jessical Leach, a senior in the UNH Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience and Behavior and CoBALT lab member since 2019, presented her capstone project at the UNH Undergraduate Research Conference on April 23rd. This project is part of the iSCORE study investigating brain networks associate with symtpoms of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in active duty service members. She applied the graph theory metric
modularity to examine differences in brain integration/segregation in individuals with mTBI secondary to blast versus non-blast related brain injuries. She found that while both types of injury resulted in differences in brain network organization compared to healthy control participants, only those with non-blast related injuries (e.g., falls, motor vehicle accidents) demonstrated differing modular structure when engaged in high effort task performance.
