Carrie obtained her BS, MS, and PhD in environmental science at The Ohio State University. Her background is in forest pathology, specifically focused on tree microbiome work, early disease detection, and bioinformatics.  Carrie is primarily interested in 21st century forest restoration efforts, especially related to identifying and breeding for tree resistance mechanisms and understanding the role of the microbiome in forest diseases. In the Garnas lab, Carrie is  exploring how non-native forests pests and pathogens have influenced the structure of northeastern forests over time and how these changes have affected carbon sequestration.
