NR403 - Introduction to Environmental Science

A multi-disciplinary introduction to Environmental Science, presenting basic concepts and controversies in geology, meteorology/hydrology, global biology and biogeochemistry, integrated through the study of the Earth as a system.  The course is divided into four sections addressing each of these four areas.  Energy will be used as a cross-cutting theme throughout the course.  Potential sources of energy from each of these components of the Earth system will be explored.  There will be a 1.5-hour lab period each week that will provide experience in data analysis and synthesis relative to that week’s topic and/or time to work on term projects.
