Mehmet KayaalpI am an assistant professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Binghamton University in 2015. Later, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher in Secure Systems group of IBM Research.

During my doctoral studies, I worked on improved code reuse attacks and cache based side channel attacks, and developed architectural techniques for defending computer systems against such attacks. In my postdoctoral studies, I worked on issues of systems security, including cloud security, secure and trusted boot, and trusted execution models.

My research goal is to develop inexpensive defense mechanisms that can be implemented in the lower layers of the computing stack, including hardware, firmware, virtualization layer, operating system, namespaces (containers), cloud infrastructure etc.

I am looking to recruit both undergrad and grad students. See here for details.
