Throughout my childhood, I have always had a passion for animals. I was never able to have a dog of my own  because my family did not have a yard. As a result of not being able to have a dog, I was always fascinated with organizations that would work with them. I remember going to a local shelter with my grandma just to see what the shelters were like. Of course I would always try to persuade my grandma to get me a dog, but that never worked.  Even though I was not able to have a dog, I did have cats. Having an animal has always been an important part of my life because they are true companions that never let you down.

Going into college, I wanted to become more active in helping animals. My friend and I decided to join the Animal Welfare club here at UNH. We work with the New Hampshire SPCA by volunteering within the shelter. Right now, I am in the process of working with dogs, which consists of walking and training them to be awarded with good behavior. This type of volunteer work is truly rewarding to me because I will eventually be able to form bonds with these animals and see them being adopted into a forever home. Having this experience may help me in the future as well. I am thinking about working at  a kennel in my town over the summer, and by having this experience I believe that I will be prepared for the job. This is one of the reasons why I have decided to center my topic around Animal Welfare. Animals deserve a voice, and by getting involved, we can help them to be heard.

I came across issues within Animal Welfare and decided that I wanted to base my site on this topic. As I do more research within these issues, I am hoping to provide ways for people to get involved within organizations that advocate for Animal Welfare. Many of these issues are in need of more attention from the public. Within this site, I am hoping to provide information that will educate and promote awareness about the challenges that animals face.
