Practice & Research Implications

Practice recommendations

Awareness of patient preferences is important, telehealth is not the best form of care for everyone or all situations. Only use telehealth practices when it is sutiable for both the patient and their types of visit. Telehealth can be unsafe for rare, unknown, or unstable conditions. Furthermore, it is not helpful if physical examination or diagnostic testing is necessary.

Research Implications
Further studies should investigate why some respondents prefer in-person appointments and what can be done in the future to make telehealth more appropriate for this population. It should also be investigated why older adults prefer in-person. This could be due to their experience/comfort with technology. Interventions should be investigated to decrease this digital divide.
