Course Description:
Basic properties of hydraulic cements and mineral aggregates, and their interactions in the properties of plastic and hardened concrete; modifications through admixtures; production handling and placement problems; specifications; quality control and acceptance testing; lightweight, heavyweight, and other special concretes.
Course Objectives:
To gain knowledge on the topic of Portland cement concrete with focus on manufacture of cement, hydration process, mineral aggregate properties as they apply to PCC properties, mix design methods, use of admixtures and supplementary cementitious materials, concrete production and placement, mechanical properties of hardened concrete, durability and maintenance and specialty concrete products.
