High-School Teacher Summer Research Experience

Prof. Yu offered a six-week ECE summer research experience for a math teacher, Mr. Connor Reed, from Nashua North High School in 2014, as part of the UNH Research Experience for Teachers in Engineering program – Research to Inspire Science and Engineering (RISE; NSF #1132648). Dr. Yu and her graduate students strengthened Mr. Reed’s skills on MATLAB modeling, C programming, and hardware simulations. Mr. Reed’s summer research resulted in a conference paper, poster presentation, and a teaching module that introduced a probability model of soft errors, which are one of the causes for unreliable ICs.

Prof. Yu offered another six-week ECE summer research experience for a physics teacher, Mr. Andy Mitchell, from Hillsboro-Deering High School in 2016, as part of the UNH Research Experience for Teachers in Engineering program – Research to Inspire Science and Engineering. Dr. Yu and her graduate students strengthened Mr. Mitchell’s skills on MATLAB modeling, C programming, and hardware simulations. Mr. Mitchell’s summer research resulted in a poster presentation, and a teaching module that introduced a model of thermal activities in 3D ICs.
