I came into the University of New Hampshire as a declared Social Work major in the fall of 2018. Soon, I realized that I wanted to practice social work with a sustainability lens and took Surveying Sustainability in the spring of 2019. I highly recommend this course. While I am most interested in and passionate about the people/social equity pillar of sustainability, I learned about all three pillars in this course in a well-organized way. I knew while taking this course that I would eventually declare a Sustainability Dual Major.
Because I was already looking for ways to lead a more sustainable life, I was excited to participate in the Personal Action Project, the final assignment in this course. While I had planned to transition from a vegetarian diet to a vegan one for this project, my plan was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Ultimately, I focused on reducing my water consumption and enjoyed it just as much.
So, if you are interested in learning more about sustainability, and maybe even eventually declaring a Sustainability Dual Major, take this course!
