I knew from my first day at UNH that I wanted to be a sustainability dual major, and I signed up for Sustainability 401 accordingly. I found the class to be a great introduction to the many topics Sustainability can cover. I was pleased by the emphasis on systems thinking and the refusal of the class to shy away from complexity.
401 only gave brief overviews of many topics with which I was already familiar. The value of the class came from the sustainability lens. Being able to make connections between different issues and see the larger themes of the class represented in real world stories made lessons impactful.
The class did a fair job of balancing the scientific, social, and economic aspects of sustainability. Individual students were able to contribute their own expertise as class conversations veered towards their majors.
