During 2019/20, I had the opportunity to work remotely with Karner Blue Capital (KBC), a small impact investment firm out of Bethesda, Maryland as a sustainability research intern. KBC is a women-owned firm focusing on responsible investments, specifically related to biodiversity and animal welfare.
Since KBC is still a smaller company I had the opportunity to work directly with an analyst in specifically the food and agriculture sector. My work mainly consisted of analyzing companies for investability based on key performance indicators (KPIs). The KPIs used were specifically related to biodiversity, environmental stewardship, and animal welfare, with this analysis investors can confirm that they are investing in companies that are doing their part to combat climate change.
I was incredibly grateful for this internship experience which reaffirmed my belief that there are companies working towards change in the financial field. Working directly with professionals in the impact investing field was a great educational experience and I commend KBC for all the work they are doing to promote sustainable change.
