The use of Telehealth technologies has the potential to make a positive impact in the healthcare lives of patients. For example, it offers convenient health care on the patient’s time schedule therefore saving travel time for those in rural areas. In addition, it reduces healthcare costs for patients and improves the access to healthcare specialists. By using two-way video, mobile apps on smartphones, and other tools such as sensors and monitors, quality, life-saving routine, or preventative healthcare is provided.
Although there are large advancements in technology that are being implemented all of the United States, more investigation needs to be completed in order to determine all of the possibilities that technology has to offer. Specifically, how will these telecommunications technology be implemented into the healthcare system and what are the outcomes associated with them? How is such implementation done in communities whose individuals do not have access to the internet or mobile phone? Telehealth and its various technologies is a new and improving form of healthcare. With more investigation and research on the risks and benefits, healthcare professionals and patients will be more informed and educated on how Telehealth can change their world of healthcare.
In conclusion, various technologies can be applied through Telehealth to empower patients to have control over their healthcare, but despite current research, more investigation needs to be completed in order to determine all of the possibilities technology has to offer. The goal of the project that inspired such investigation was to dive deeper into the new technologies being created on a daily basis, but most importantly discover how to transition patients to a different style of healthcare that requires utilizing technology. Essentially, the team is well informed on technology within Telehealth while also focused on the process of realistically delivering this to the patient.
