The Zoomers is a group of three people:
Tyler Gleason, Senior Civil Engineering Student
Parker Lundsted, Junior Civil Engineering Student
Ben Kerns, Senior Animal Science Student
The Zoomers want to work effectively and efficiently with one another so that our creativity in the project can flourish and so that no one member of the group will be tasked with more than their fair share of work. By working collectively as a creative team the Zoomers will be able to create a project that will be well received by the faculty and students who pass through Hamilton Smith Hall.
The original quote selected by the group was was by T Harv Eker and read “if you’re willing to do only what’s easy, life will be hard, but if you’re willing to do what’s hard, life will be easy”. We selected this quote because we found it to be motivational and felt that other students passing through Hamilton Smith Hall would feel similarly. The group felt that placing it in a high traffic area where it would get the most exposure to students would be the best location for the quote. With this in mind, the group decided on placing the quote on a wall at the top of the central staircase that leads down into the sunroom. This staircase is almost like the central artery of Ham Smith, connecting the upper levels and lower levels, so it would be expected to experience the highest flow of students through the building.
Unfortunately the quote was not selected so the group had to choose another quote. The group ultimately decided on a quote by the great Dr. Seuss which reads “So the writer who breeds more words than he needs, is making a chore for the reader who reads”. We selected this quote because it reflects some of the ideas we have learned here in Technical writing, and we plan to place the quote and graphic on a wall in our technical writing classroom.
This project was very different from the projects the group is used to. The groups enjoyed the project and worked well as a team to reach our goals. Although our original quote wasn't selected we are very pleased with the second quote we selected. In all honesty we feel that this second quote will be more well received than the original quote because who doesn't love Dr. Suess? In a more general sense the Wildcat Wall Project is a good project for students as well as Hamilton Smith Hall. The blank walls of Ham Smith get to be decorated with motivational quotes and students get to interact with the quotes around the building and draw emotions for them. The one criticism of the project the group has is a better selection of quotes for next time and we want the administrators to be more specific about what they're looking for as far as quotes and designs go, because it seems that many quotes were not selected. So, being more specific and allowing for a variety of different quotes would only help this project in the future.
